When I was a JW, the only time I became suicidal was right before the meetings and assemblies.

YOU THINK LIKE A JW !!!
by Prisca inthe above phrase has been bandied about in the past and present, often as a form of insult when the poster disagrees with something another poster has said.. but what exactly do they mean?.
how do you think like a jw?
is there a certain code of synapses that distinguish a jw from a non-jw?.

I understand how you feel about your faith, but until you are ready to take an honest, factual and biblical look at the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses versus Christianity, then discussions such as these go no where. Rex had mentioned some good points.
Jehovah's Witnesses versus Christianity? Yes, I guess that's a valid statement!

Disfellowshiping and shunning
by Liquidizer inthe problem is not the disfellowshipping itself but the shunning most of us don't accept.
i'm not so much against the disfellowshipping but shunning because it doesn't help anybody to repent some possible gross sin.
the situation is still more worse if you disagree with one or more of the wts teachings.

Disfellowshipping would probably be equated with "tough love" by JW adherants. "Tough love" is generally reserved in a more secular setting for incorrigible reprobates. Such as family members who are alcoholics and drug abusers who repeatedly disrupt the family with lying, cheating and stealing to maintain their habituations. The idea being that until someone in these scenarios has reached the absolute bottom with nobody to turn to, recovery, if possible at all is, not likely.
I think we could agree that this is not typically the condition of
erring JW's who very often voluntarily confess their sins, only to be cast aside. And even if they do not voluntarily confess sins, such extreme punishment as "enforced shunning" would seem too harsh for the vast majority of cases. The whole process by an organization that represents itself as reflecting the love of the almighty is repugnant to me.

Thank You Ray Franz.
by Martini inhello friends,.
in a thread over at witnesses.net entitled "society bracing for law suits" fellow jw's are taking swipes at ray franz.
not too long ago, while i was still under the wt spell i also would have similarily spoken abusively of ray.

I read Crisis of Conscience in 1984. I read it three times in one week because I wanted to be absolutely certain that what I was reading made sense to me when compared to 34 years of Watchtower indoctrination. Only after I was thoroughly convinced of the validity of his assertions did I pass the book onto my father.
For as long as I live, I will have a overwhelming feeling of gratitude to Ray Franz for his honesty and courage. I remember Ray as seeming somewhat aloof when I was at Bethel in the early 70's, but perhaps he was just starting to have questions internally even back then.
The biggest obstacle when talking to current JW's about their doubts is getting them to actually take the step of reading Crisis of Conscience. There is no substitute for reading it.

Doesn't being a JW mean freedom from thinking for oneself? I mean, wasn't it nice not to have to worry our pretty little heads about thinking when we could turn that over to the GB and let them do it all for us?

Funny, I never thought of apostates as a community. It kind of brings a tear to my eye. Do we have a Credit Union?

Ozzie:
Perhaps there was only one prayer. It's endless nature perhaps just made it seem like there was more than one. All Witness prayers are long, arduous and rambling. If anyone talked to me, the way JW's publicly pray to Jehovah, I'd walk away from them within the first minute. If there is puking in the celestial realm, a JW prayer would certainly initiate it.

I just noticed that my last post was my 100th. My screen lit up and my speakers blared out "YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE BOZO!" Did that happen to anyone else here?
